Prior to entering Law School, Eli had a successful 15-year business career in various technological fields including cellular, GPS, and computer software. Eli's undergraduate degree is a B.Sc. in computer science from the University of Toronto.
Eli graduated with an MBA from the prestigious Ivey Business School, at the University of Western Ontario in 1986, and then worked as a technology consultant for an international accounting firm. In 2004, he received a law degree from the University of Toronto Law School and was called to the bar in July 2005. While in Law School, Eli was the recipient of the Wilson Moot 2003 award for top oral advocacy. He articled with a prestigious insurance defence law firm and practiced with the firm as an associate for 10 years before opening his own litigation practice in 2015.
Eli has a general litigation practice with a focus on insurance and business litigation. He has extensive experience in most aspects of insurance law, including defending insureds on behalf of insurers and coverage opinions. Eli has experience in other areas of litigation including Bar/Tavern/intoxication cases, motor vehicle accidents and Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal right to sue applications.
Eli's business experience has also enabled him to develop a practice representing business owners, partners and others who are involved in partnership disputes, non-payment or repudiation of contracts, and related matters. Eli has appeared in various courts including Superior Court, Divisional Court, Federal Court and even the Tax Court of Canada, where he represented a small business owner and recovered $930,000.00 from the CRA in respect of denied GST input credits.
