Counsel

Nick received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto in 1978 and went on to obtain his Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Western Ontario in 1983. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1985.

Nick’s areas of expertise include liquor licensing, municipal and development law and real estate law, with a focus on facilitating approvals required from government and regulatory bodies. He also practices in the area of construction law.

From small premises to large stadium venues—such as Starbucks to Canadian Tire Place, Nick helps clients obtain and maintain liquor licenses and provides representation before the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario. Nick also offers legal advice and guidance through all phases of the land development and construction process and has been involved in many successful and diverse developments in the Greater Toronto Area, including the Radisson Admiral Hotel at Harbourfront, Minto Plaza on Bay Street, The Polson Pier Entertainment Complex and the Lilian H. Smith Library on College Street. He has also been retained in challenging property acquisitions such as the O-Train Trillium Line in Ottawa and former Prison for Women in Kingston. Land development and liquor licensing can often be related and Nick can uniquely advise on these matters such as for the Docks Entertainment Complex on the Toronto Waterfront and the Burl’s Creek Event Grounds in Oro-Medonte hosting the Boots & Hearts music festival.

Nick is a member of the Ontario Bar Association and the Real Estate, Municipal and Construction Law Sections of the Canadian Bar Association. He has been on the board of the Canada Land Company that manages significant real estate assets for the Government of Canada, including the CN Tower, and is a former Chair (Chief Barker) of Variety Club of Ontario and Variety Village. Presently Nick is member of the Board of Trustees for the Ontario Science Centre.

At this time, Nick restricts his practice to providing advice to clients and supervising liquor licensing and land use matters.
